    How Larco Industrial Safety Mat Systems Work

    A Larco presence-sensing safety mat works like a normally-open switch. When stepped on, the "switch" closes and sends a signal to the controller, which, in turn, sends a stop signal to the guarded machine.

    • Larco controls provide intelligence to the system by monitoring the safety mat and machine wires for malfunctions due to incorrect wiring or physical damage.

    Larco mats can be secured using a variety of trim and mounting methods that are built for a number of environments, including areas with heavy forklift traffic.

    Impact Resilient
    Heavy-duty electrode assembly and durable outer shell provide extraordinary impact resilience and withstand heavy loads of as much as 3,000 psi.

    Highly Sensitive
    Larco mats have a high sensitivity threshold requiring only 3-5 Ibs. for activation in normal foot traffic.

    Totally Submersible
    Larco safety mats are not laminated and will not separate. Hermetically molded in a thick, seamless vinyl, they are impervious to fluids and suitable for even the harshest industrial environments.

    • Customization Capabilities

    Color
    Larco safety mats are available in a number of color options. The standard Larco mat color is black. Other colors available for an additional charge are brown, yellow, gray, blue, red and cordovan.

    Custom Lettering and Logos
    Informational messages such as "Caution" or "Do Not Step" or symbols can be added to your safety mat utilizing contrasting colors to provide a visual warning to personnel. Larco has a variety of symbols in stock and can custom-build logos for any specific application.

    Custom Sizes and Shapes
    You can specify the length and/or width of a mat and/or notches, angles or radiuses for any of Larco's 50 standard mat sizes to create an unlimited number of custom sizes and shapes.

    Quick Connect Tab/Cord System
    The Larco Quick Connect Tab/Cord System is a fast and easy way to connect multiple Larco safety mats without having to deal with wire bundles in your control box. Through a series of spade terminals and jumper wires, the Larco Quick Connect System provides on the floor connections between mats, eliminating the need for junction boxes. NOTE: This method should not be used in areas where fluids are present. For more information on this installation and wiring option, request Technical Bulletin-4.

    Larco Labor Saver Self-Adhesive Mat System
    In mounting situations where trim is just not practical, the Larco Labor Saver Self-Adhesive Mat System can be used to secure mats. This mat option includes a specially formulated adhesive, which is factory applied directly to a mat or trim surface to hold mats and trim in place without screws or other metal fasteners.     Mat Wiring
    All Larco mats are configured with a 20-foot long, single jacketed, four-wire cord unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase.

    Four-Wire Plug Cord
    Larco offers the convenience of a molded plug for easy wire connections. When used with the appropriate receptacle they form a watertight mechanical connection and seal.

    Field Installed Plugs
    A fast, efficient means of interconnecting mat systems to controls, field installed plugs have the same watertight characteristics as the molded plug and can be attached to Larco's standard 20-foot long cord.

    Control Box Receptacles
    Accepts the plug cords shown above and are typically mounted in the mat control device or mat wiring junction box.
